This is a traditional oil-on-canvas painting with Photoshop lettering added that I created for the cover for a novel about the celebrated Tuskegee Airmen of WWII.
The vacated, run-down but well-cleaned homes surrounded by the new leaves of spring on the trees symbolize a fresh beginning for many young African American men who overcame extreme prejudice to prove themselves as highly skilled fighter pilots.
